Hello Olathe.
This week I am curios to know what you all think about the turmoil in our town government concerning the resignation/termination of Finance Director and Town Treasurer, Pamela Woods and the roles played by Town Admin Scott Harold and Mayor Perkins in the matter? Are you pleased with the way the Board of Trustees is handling the situation? Is there more going on than just small town politics? Where is the line between right and wrong and just how safe is a person's job? As a community, where is this leading us and how will we as citizens handle it? What will happen from here? From my perspective, it will certainly be interesting to watch itself play out and in the end I have my fingers and toes crossed that good will triumph.
We at The Messenger as well as the entire town would very much like to hear your thoughts and opinions surrounding this so please drop us a line.

What the heck is going on here. The citizens of Olathe should be outraged. Pam Woods has done a good job here and in no way deserves the treatmenbt she is getting. I hope she sues the pants off those responsible and town hall needs a major houscleaning before this is all through.
ReplyDeleteH. Chalmers
I thought Ahmadinejad was President of Iran, not Mayor of Olathe.
ReplyDeleteRumor has it that Mayor Perkins resigned today. Can anyone confirm this?
ReplyDeleteYes it is true, Mayor Don Perkins turned in a letter of resignation on June 24th citing a difference of opinion and conflict of direction between he and the Board of Directors.
ReplyDeleteSo it's been a couple weeks now, we've lost our Mayor and the residents STILL don't know what the heck is going on at Town Hall ...
ReplyDeleteI suggest everyone who is unhappy about this situation or has questions, go to the next town meeting and ask! You have a right to ask questions and hear what your town council is doing. They don't want to operate in a vacuum, I"m sure - they need your support and your involvement for the good of the town.
The town meetings I've been in are so sparsely attended it's pathetic - my guess is that fewer than 1% of the town residents ever attend.
- If you want to know what's going on, be there and hear it first-hand.
Then come back here and discuss it :-)
You are correct about attending the meetings. This is why the old council (back about five years)got away with so much crap, no one attended and things got slipped right through.
ReplyDeletePerkins had his own agenda he wasn't interested in the town he wanted his old buddies back in so they could go back to old times.
I disagree about Perkins not being interested in the town - I don't think any council member gets enough perks (no pun intended) to make serving on the council worth the 2nd guessing and distrust they attract. I sure wouldn't do it! I believe most people take those positions because they care deeply about the town, not for any hidden agendas.
ReplyDeleteI applaud all of them for being willing to do the job, even if I don't agree with every person's opinion. They are in the trenches doing the job while the rest of us sit at home playing armchair quarterbacks ...
But clearly Perk's ideas and the rest of the council's did not coincide, and my opinion is it's better to get out of Dodge than stay around beating your head against a brick wall.
I'm sorry he resigned, I respect him. But it may be better for the town to avoid the infighting that could ensue if he stayed, taking the focus away from running the town properly. His resignation may be the better part of wisdom for the town.
I've noticed in many cases Olathe seems to have trouble separating principles from personalities ... and that's a shame because a lot of good people get turned off and leave organizations to avoid getting mixed up in the infighting.
"So it's been a couple weeks now, we've lost our Mayor and the residents STILL don't know what the heck is going on at Town Hall ... "
ReplyDeleteWhat? He turned in his resignation on Wed, just five days ago not a couple of weeks.... also the Town is running fine, you act as if it can not run without a Mayor. As for what is going on you need to attend a meeting and find out.... Wow no wonder this town has no clue on what is going on
Are you serious Kelley? The article in todays newspaper makes Perk out to be a miss-understood misfit that did nothing but good.... come on!!! Good bye Matt, glad you wont be around to write crap like that!!!!
