Question about mailboxes in Olathe

From Laura: I am writing for my Grandma who live in town and does not do computers. She is elderly and does not get around very well. It is hard for her to walk up to the post office. Why did they take out the post office box? Will they bring it back?

  1. Hi Laura, I don't know the answer to your question. But from what I've heard before, no - the mailboxes at individual homes in Olathe are no longer being used and people do need to go to the post office to get their mail.

This is not true outside of town, where there is still mail delivery.

My guesses (not confirmed with post office): Like any other business, the post office has to cut services to save money. So I believe they stopped the individual delivery of mail to each house so they could save money on mail carriers.

-- I suggest you call the Olathe post office and ask if they have an option for your grandmother. Maybe they do have a plan for how to help the infirm and elderly. The number is 323-5936.

    Hope this helps.
